LAWN TENNIS.

AUCKLAND TOURNEY. YESTERDAY'S PLAY. GOOD PROGRESS MADE. One of tlio most interesting matches of the late afternoon at the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's championship tournament yesterday was one in the combined doubles, between J. Wilson and Miss D. Miller and E. W. Lucas and Miss Hooper, which the former won, B—G, 4—(i, (3 —1 • The match was a close tussle all the way, and more like a men s doubles than a combined. Both women did their part and frequently all four players were at the 11 ct. the women giving as good as they received from their male opponents. Hooper is a much-improved player, while Miss Miller has not played so well for some time. At times she returned shots-which 6eemed aces all the way. The first two sets were better than the last, m which ' the losing pair slumped somewhat, though [ the actual game, as is so often the casq, was better than the score would seem to indicate. Results of matches played after the mam edition of the "Star" went to press JCoterday were:— LADIES' SINGLES. Second Round. —Miss Marjoric farlane beat Mrs. N.
