REQUEST DECLINED.
BIRKENHEAD'S PUBLIC MEETING. Tlie Birkenhead Borough Council last night refused the request of rlre local Ratepayers' Association that a public meeting he called to explain the affairs of the borough. The Mayor, Mr. G. Mills, said that there were only three months to run to the end of the council's term of office, when a manifesto would be issued._ "I donot see that anything can be gained by a public meeting at this stage," he said. "I am quite prepared to give any information to the association. Mr. P. Dennen said that Mr. E J. Sinel attended the Birkdale Ratepayers' Association at each meeting and supplied all information desired.
