REPLY TO CORONER.
A TRAMWAYMAN'S SILENCE.
EXPLANATION BY MANAGER,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
CHRISTCTIURCH, this day.
The manager of the Tramway Board has replied to the coroner's comment on the refusal of a tramway employee to make a statement to the police concerning an accident.
"There has evidently been some misunderstanding in the matter, as a result of the motorman being away on account of sickness and also because the Tramway Board's solicitor was absent on holiday," he said. "It has been a practice of the board to supply the names and addresses of witnesses to the police, as was done in this case, and it was a complete surprise to hear that the police had not secured a copy of the motorman's statement to the board, which was available."
