AMUSEMENTS.

PLAZA THEATRE. An Edgar Wallace mystery-thriller forms the main part of the current attraction at the Plaza Iheatre. Entitled lhe Old Man," it is an adaptation of tne Wyndham's Theatre, London, stage success. The keynote of this talkie is its mystery, of course. That there are plenty of thrills in the picture goes without saying—yet that is not all. There is also the inimitable Maisie Gay, in the role ot an old charwoman, who provides tne necessary spice of linmour. Her talent is too well known to need much comment here. It is a coincidence that Maisie^ Gay, who again appears in one of her inimitable "Mrs. 'Arris" roles, should have been the star' of a previous Wallace film, "To Oblige a Lady." Her portrayal in these two productions gains her laurels that point her out as being, with Mary Brough, the two most sincere character actresses now in the British motion picture firmament. Other prominent members of the oast are Anne Grey, Cecil Humphries, D. A. Clarke-Smith and Lester Matthews. The photography and reproductions are reputed to be excellent, and the language is as British as the picture—no small attraction nowadays. This production, under the clever direction of Manning Havne.s, preserves its secret right to the end. The story, written by Edgar Wallace, is a characteristic example of his art. MUNICIPAL BAND. A large audience listened to the Auckland Municipal Band at Albert Park last night. Marked appreciation was shown at the conclusion of each number. A fine programme was also given at the Zoological Park yesterday afternoon. The band will give another programme at Point Chevalier on Wednesday evening.
