RACING MOTORS.

I HENNING'S SPEEDWAY. | . SEASON'S FIRST MEETING. Those ivho watched the motor car raccs at Jlanfeere on Saturday afternoon -were, in their way, more fortunate than the drivers, for a steady wind blew the dust across the track instead of up the hill. Along the straight, the cars had a beam wind, and the drivers were able to sec their way, but on the bends they were driving blindly through dense clouds of dust. This gave the limit men a great advantage, as they had a clear track ahead, and hid themselves in a cloud. Despite the unsafe conditions, both motorists and motor cyclists recorded very good times, the two wheelers lapping generally at 70 m.p.h. and over. In the Brooklands Handicap. Geo. Smith, driving his lioosevelt, nearly came to grief trying to maintain his speed through a cloud of dust on the corner leading out of the straight. He was seen to shoot up the bank and stall, but he got his engiue going again and completed the distance, though the delay cost him a place. The racing throughout the afternoon was exciting. There were several close finishes for second and third places. A special challenge race between the Riley (Dexter), the Bugatti (Edwarda) and the Austin (Grierson) provided the best racing of the afternoon. After the race was over, Dexter decided to do another lap,, but got into a bad slide coming into the straight and crashed in front of the judge s box. • His car missed three men by inches. Dexter was not hurt. Results were :— Novice Handicap, 5 Laps.—T. ButlSi(Morris Minor), 30s, 1; W. 11. Hillson (binger), 20s, 2; L. C. Driver (Triumph), 20s, 3. Time 7.20 1-5.
