YOUTH ESCAPES.

MISSING FROM CELL SQUEEZED THROUGH OPENING. . (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. A 19-year-old youth, Walter John Clues, charged in the Thames Court on Saturday with being a deserter from H.M.s. Diomede, and with converting a motor cycle to his own use, escaped from the Thames police station while waiting on remand for transference to Auckland. It is alleged that the accused pulled down a ventilator of his cell and squeezed his body through the opening. Clues being of slim build would find that the task presented little difficulty. He is believed to have effected his escape late last night or early this morning. A description of the escaped prisoner shows that his height is sft si<in and that he is of slight build and youthful in appearance, with very fair hair. At the time of his disappearance he was dressed in a grey coat, with fawn-coloured short trousers, and a blue shirt. The police are out scouring the district, but so far no trace of the youth has been found.
