The introduction of the new betting system was responsible for a lack of punctuality in getting off the races at Trentham on Thursday, the public being slow through being unaccustomed to the conditions. _ Money was lost on the sixth lace in closing down to save some time, but even then the last race "was nearly Dialf an liour _ late. Dilatory backers would not receive so much consideration to-day, as the officials had decided to observe the usual Trentham practice of closing the machine promptly to time.
