KIOREROA WORKS.

REQUESTS TO BOARD. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Friday. A report on the Kioreroa wharf and railway was submitted to the Whangarei Harbour Board this morning. Mr. J. A. Finlayson, the chairman, presided. On Wednesday the works committee went to Dargaville to meet executive officers of the Railways Board, and to place before them matters concerning the works at Kioreroa.

The question of the sale of materials on the Onerahi wharf was the first matter to be dealt with, and the report stated that the railway rails which were a fixture on that portion of the Onerahi wharf, and which would require to be placed on the new wharf, had now been offered to the Harbour Board upon valuations, making a total cost of £472 11/5.

Second and third class rails, it was stated, were valued at 9d to 4d per foot, while farmers and tradesmen, it was believed, could buy the material in small lots at a cheaper rate.

It was urged that the matter be again reviewed.

Another matter put before the Departmental officers was the question of the railway approach to Kioreroa wharf. The committee asked if the Department would put into serviceable order, as soon as possible, the existing railway approach to the Kioreroa new jvharf, which latter structure would be completed soon after March 31. The Harbour Board was prepared, if required, to find the unskilled labour necessary for the work.

Other matters put before the officers were the removal of the railway bridge at Kioreroa and the granting to the Harbour Board for farming purposes of the surplus land which lay along the railway fronting the Harbour Board's land, between the Whangarei station and the Otiaka River.

The report concluded that after the various points had been discussed, the General Manager of Railways undertook to advise his decisions as earlv as possible.
