The Franklin County Council at its meeting yesterday was not in accord with a suggestion from the Stratford County Council, that the Government pay all farmers' rates and remit the land tax this year. Mr. H, P. Garland said the council had favoured derating principles, and that the money for road purposes should be obtained through motor taxation. It was decided to acquaint the Stratford Council of the Franklin Council's idea. The council supported the suggestion of the Eaiapoi Borough Council that the Government he urged to introduce legislation compelling the hanks to lower their interest charges.
