DEFEAT OF DIATOMOUS.

Few who saw Diatomous 6core such a clear-cut victory in the A.R.C. Royal Stakes, which extended to six furlongs, thought, the-son of Diacquenod would go under in the 'Wellington Stakes yeste*day, particularly when the distance of the race'was only five furlongs, and Diatomous is recognised as being a very- brilliant beginner. However, Diatomous was not only beaten, but he failed to gain a place after being in front early. In the Stakes yesterday hie speed did not carry him far, and he was well gone some distance from the judge. The winner, Guarantee, has shown good form and galloping ability, but it was thought he could not go with Diatomous for five furlongs. Guarantee is owned by the Dunedin sportsman, Mr. J. M. Samson, and is trained by C. Geiseler at Wingatui, He is by . Paper Money cut of Entre Nous, a bay mare bred in 1919 by Mr. I. G'. Duncan. She is by Boniform out of Secret Link, the latter being by Benzonian—Chainstitch. Entre Nous was retired to the stud in 1926, and mated with Roubaix, but she missed to that horse, and the following year she produced a colt to Weathervane. In 1928 and 1929 she was mated with Paper Money and missed each time, but her owner stuck to Paper Money*- and in 1930 Entre Nous produced a bay colt, who. under the name of Guarantee, won the Wellington Stakes yesterday.
