Tho Rev. Father McGrath left for the South last night. Dr. McCaw left for the South last night by the Limited. Professor F. P. Worley returned by the express this morning. Mr. Tom Bloodworth left by train yesterday afternoon lor the South. Mr. Culford Bell left by the Marama to-day to spend a holiday in Sydney. Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P. for Franklin, left yesterday afternoon for the South. Dr. E. K. McLean, of Waipava, has been awarded a fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. Professor R. H. Laurenee-Toole, of the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music, Sydney, is spending a vacation touring New Zealand.

Mr. A. Trenary, of the Hamilton railway station staff, lias received notice of his transfer to Ohakune. His position will be filled by Mr. P. F. Henry, or Nelson.

Professor J. Macmillan Brown was unanimously re-elected Chancellor of the New Zealand University Senate, and the Hon. J. A. Hanan was re-elected ProCliancellor at the annual meeting of the senate on Tuesday.

Mr. John Dash, M.A., of the staff of the Palmerston North Boys'_ High School, has been appointed principal of the Hawera Technical High School in succession to Mr. A. Gray, who has retired on superannuation.

Mr. H. L. Thompson, M.A., graduate of the Auckland University College, who has been teaching for- three and a half years in the Hokianga district* sailed by the Marama to-day en route to England. He will study educational methods abroad, and expects to be away far about a year.

Mr. 0. C. Cox, who lias been manager of the Christciiurch branch of the D.I.C. for the past 10 years, intends to retire frofn the position in a month's Mr. Cox is a member of the Employers Association, a past president of the Drapers Association, and a member of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. For two years he was president of the Canterbury Bowling Club. Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M. at Lower Hutt, has been transferred to New Plymouth. At a meeting of law practitioners in the Hutt Valley on Tuesday, Mr. C. R. Barrett, president of the Hutt Valley Law Committee, on behalf of- the practitioners, expressed deep regret at Mr. Woodward's departure from the circuit. No magistrate had endeared himself to practitioners more than Mr. Woodward.
