DOCTOR KILLS CRIPPLE.
CONSENT OP HtS MOTHER.
Recently a Prague -woman physician,! Dr. Paula Klaft-Salus, learning that her 14-year-old nephew, Peter Bochobradsky, had been so severely injured by an explosion that he would be crippled for life, bought a revolver, and, after consultation with the mother, went to the hospital and shot the child dead to put him out of his misery. Both she and the mother were arrested on a charge of murder.
They were both afterwards released from prison, and the proceedings quashed, on the basis of a medical certificate. This declared that both women were suffering from nervous breakdowns. It was in a state of mental irresponsibility that they had decided to kill the boy. The mental conflict had unbalanced their minds, and they needed to undergo a long course of mental treatment before they could again become normal, the report said. The women were committed to an. asylum.
