AT TAKANINI.
LITTLE FAST GALLOPING. GREAT EMBLEM'S MILE. It was quiet at Takanini this morning, when most of the horses worked were confined to sprinting tasks. The first to work were Greek Gold and Exaggeration, the former being a shade in front at the end of half a mile run in 49 2-ss. Both horses worked well. The Magpie—Linquair gelding reeled off half a mile in 50s. Master Brierly and Gay Marigold were companions over five furlongs, and, going comfortably throughout, finished on terms in 1.3 4-5. Tavern Knight beat Rereatu over three furlonigs in 36 2-ss, but Rereatu could have improved upon his showing. Chief Joy ran home from the five-fur-long post in 1.4 2-5. Great Emblem was sent over nine furlongs, being assisted over the last seven by Principal and Imperial Prince, who were in front of the Takapuna Cup candidate when they jumped off. Principal finished a length in front of Great Emblem, with Imperial Prince a length away. Great Emblem was timed to run the last mile of his nine furlongs in 1.45 1-5. Eldora and Cherry King covered three furlongs in 41s, got to the end of half a mile in 51s.
The Hiker (Walters) gave a first-class display of jumping over four hurdles.
