MERCURY BAY INSTITUTE.
The January meeting of the Mercury Bay Women's Institute was largely attended. A picnic committee was elected to take charge of the forthcoming school children's picnic. As Mrs. F. Rhodes ia leaving shortly for South Africa, she was presented with a parting gift, on behalf of the institute, by Mrs. Lyon. After the business finished the meeting was turned into an open meeting, and a musical programme was given ae follows:—A duet played by Mrs. and Miss Hinds; Mrs. Brophy recited "The Birth of. an Opal" and "Butterflies"; Mrs. Smith sang "Rose in the Bud" and "Greetings"; Mrs. Lynch recited "My Day Out" and "A Cockney Girl at the Talkies"; Misses Jean Bowman and H. Topp danced a pastoral gavotte in costume. Afternoon tea was then served. After tea the fancy article, produce and cake stalls did good business. The afternoon tea was provided by the members of the institute.
