FIRES IN CITY.

« The Citv Fire Brigade answered a cali to St. Paul Street, off Symonds Street, at 6.50 last evening, when a fire had got a good hold in a toi-toi bush in the * garden near an empty house. The flames were beaten out with sacks. The Remuera brigade received a call at 0.50 this morning to a motor car on fire about 100 yards from Remuera station. The car, owned by Mr. Melius* of Station Terrace, Remuera, was seriously damaged. The outbreak was caused b% a short circuit in, the battery.
