MT. WELLINGTON ROAD BOARD

A epecial meeting of the Mount Wellington Road Board was held last evening, the . members ' present being Messrs. William Gollan (chairman), G.. H. Kay, N. Walters, H. Hay, R. M. McCulloch. Christmas Holidays.—lt -was decided to close the office during the two weeks from December 24 to January 7, and to grant leave to the outside staff for that period. By-laws.—Further regulations to control the water eupply within the district were confirmed, fixing charges for connections to properties exempt from the payment of special water Supply loan rates; providing penalties for unlawful interference with mains and service pipes, the protection and safe custody of water meters supplied by the board,, and the use of approved materials in connection with services. By-laws were considered to deal with the use of bicycles on roads, and, inter alia, to make it an offence to ride a bicycle on any road in a manner dangerous to the travelling public, for more than two persons to ride abreast along any road except during the process of passing each other, to compel the permanent fixture of rear reflectors on all bicycles, and the painting of white patches on mudguards and reflector brackets, and to prohibit persons riding bicycles from hanging on to any vehicle in, action, for the purpose of being drawn or pulled along any road. By-laws were also adopted regulating the' storage of combustible materials and the building of hay stacks near boundaries of properties or close to buildings, making it an offence to allow any chimney to be on fire, or to light any fire in the district without permission in any open space. It was decided to prosecute any person giving a false alarm of fire or in any manner obstructing the fire brigade or any member thereof whilst in attendance at any fire.
