NEWMARKET SCHOOL.
GROUND IMPROVEMENT. •STATEMENTS MUCH DISTORTED." Statements that there has. been ■wasteful' expenditure in improving Newmarket school grounds by relief labour were challenged to-day by the chairman of the Newmarket school committee, Mr; T. J. Wattsc i Mr. Watts said the statements regarding the school playground had been much distorted. When the school was first ibuilt on its present site, plans were submitted by the Education Board for the proper formation of the ground. "It was a rough wilderness when we went there," said Mr. Watte. "One plan submitted was for the expenditure of £2500 and the other* for over £3000. When the Hbn. R. A. Wright, Minister of Education at that time, visited the site, he said the work could not.be done for the, money." The committee claim that they have already done more than twice the work set out in those plans.
