HEALTH STAMPS.
A Christina? feature of the Post Office | is. the use of Health Stamps. When introduced last year :hjy were rather wasting in that beauty of design so sought after by philatelists, but this year's stamp is much better in appearance. The idea originated with a Danish postal clerk who, seeing the vast number of Christmas letters passing through his office, thought how excellent it would be if each sender of the season's greetings gave also one towards providing poor children with something to mark Christmas. The plan was adopted by the Danish "Postal Department and now two large consumptive hospitals are financed by means of these stamps. The'Ne-.v Zealand stamps cost twopence. They do th» work of an culinary penny stamp, and the other penny is divided up am.ir.g the health cf.mps in Wellington. Ohristchurch, Hamilton and Auckland. The Community Sunshine Association will have 300 boys, girls and scouts in their camps at Motuihi and Waiheke this summer. The expense is about 6/ per week for each child. It costs money and entails much hard work, but it is a gilt-edged investment. In Wellington, 'business houses are using health stamps for one week's or one day's mailing. We would like our Auckland mercantile fims to do the same. Last year the Wellington Past Office sold 50,000 stamps and Auckland 20,000. As the Community Sunshine Camps and the Port Waikato camp are the ibiggest in the Dominion we would like to see Auckland top the poll. I GEO. CRUICKSHANK, For Community Sunshine Association.
