"MISSING LINK."
PEKING MAN'S QUALITIES. LONDON, December 2. The Peking man's hands are like the modern man's, but the feet are Apelike, declared Professor Grafton ElliottSmith, in discussing the latest informa'tion concerning this phase of scientific research. The small bone of the wrist of the Peking and of the modern man are appreciably the same, he added. The finding of hundreds of stone implements, corresponding to those of other primitive peoples, he said, justified the inference that the hands of the Peking man were essentially identical with ours, while the piece .of collarbone found was of similar length to that of the adult male inhabitant of North China to-day. Small bones, formerly believed to be those of animals, have been identified now, however, as human toe bones, and indicate, by the curves, that the man must have walked with feet turned in. The man was probably able to grip with his feet, too.
