CITY BOOT POOL.
OPENS AT CHRISTMAS. . The controllers of the Hobson Street boot pool, Mr. Louis Marks and Mr. J. B. Munro, J.P., stated to-day that they had decided to keep the boot pool open at Christmas for the special benefit of the relief workers from the country. who will be coming into the city for two weeks at Christmas. Mr. Marks said that most of these relief camp workers had not had their boots repaired for months. The relief workers . engaged at tlio pool, who were entitled to the two weeka at Christmas, said Mr. Marks, had stated their willingness to work over the twoweek period at Christmas for the benefit of those men in the country. They would receive their holiday at a little later date. Discussing the work of the pool, Mr. Marks said: "There are boote being repaired that any ordinary bootmaker would simply not touch, and at Jeast 50 per cent of the boots and shoes that are brought in have the soles almost worn from the welts. In view of this, and the fact that boots are repaired while the unemployed owners wait, we think we can reasonably claim that our existence is justified." He said that only relief workers, and the wives and children of relief workers, could have their boots repaired by the poo', and each applicant had to present his or her ticket.
