CHRISTIAN SCIENCE.

LECTURER FROM LONDON. PRINCIPLES EXPLAINED. ' An address on the principles of Christian Science and their application to the problems of the day was given in His Majesty's Theatre last evening by Mr. Ralph B. Scholfield, of London, who arrived from Sydney by the Zeakndia yesterday. Mr. Scholfield is a member of tho board of lectureship of the -First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, Massachusetts. In dealing with tho primary principles of Christian Science, and the development of the Church's belief from these foundations, Mr. Scholfield emphasised that Christian Scientists did not wish it to be thought that they believed that evil did not exist and left it at that. "We take the side of humanity in the effort to overcome evil and disease," he said. "For centuries past humanity has fought evil and disease as if they were a stubborn and almost an eternal force, and certainly a very powerful force. What we are doing in Christian Science is gradually depriving evil and disease of 'origin, cause ' or power, by understanding the assertion in the Lord's Prayer, 'Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory.' Our God is that divine mind which is absolute good, and therefore cannot produce evil," the lecturer added. "How is Christian Science going to help in poverty and unemployment?" continued Mr. Scholfield. "Rule out of your mind all destructive thinking, such as fear, hatred, envy, depression and ingratitude, and you will then have become a constructive thinker. A constructive thinker docs not merely find a job—he makes one, and often where least expected. Let us purify the thinking of the heart and we shall see and experience good." Mr. Scholfield concluded his address by a reference to the life of Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science, and explained the high purpose which impelled her to establish the move- j ment.
