HOTEL LICENSE.
REFUSAL TO HAND OVER. COMMENT BY MAGISTRATE. "This is rather serious, as he is holding two licenses, which is quite a wrong state of affairs," stated Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., chairman of the Auckland Licensing Committee, this morning, when the transfer of the Central Hotel was being considered. Application -was made for the transfer from Peter Scott Ramsay to George McMillan. Mr. Woods, counsel for the applicant, stated that Eamsay, the previous licensee, had refused to hand over the license. The application had been proceeded with under another section of the Act, which authorised the transfer without the license being surrendered. Mr. Cutten asked where Tlamsay was now, and Mr. Woods replied that he understood he was the licensee of the Hotel Auckland. Mr. Woods added that he had applied to Ramsay's solicitors for the license, but they had informed him that they could not help him. After Mr. Cutten had commented on the seriousness of holding two licenses, Mr. Woods added that he could explain the committee's attitude to Ranisay's solicitor with the request that he hand over the license.
Mr. Cuttcn: He lias no business to lold it. If the matter comes ■under the committee's notice it will take rather a serious view of it. The transfer of the license was approved, as also were those of the Queen's Ferry Hotel, from Kathleen Connolly to Henry Woods; the Globe, from Jame.s Mitchell to Douglas Rees Howells; and the Robert Burns, from G. H. Bambery to E. J. Hamley. Sub-Inspector Shanahan intimated to the committee that he had no objection to make on behalf of the police.
