WILL BRADMAN PLAY?
TALK OF SUMMONING MAILEY. (Received 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Grimmett strained his right side bowling on Saturday. He had massage treatment during the week-end and expected to be fit for to-day. Light rain fell during the night, but not enough to affect the wicket.
The Board of Control announced on Sunday night that the medical report indicates that there is every prospect of Bradman playing in the second Test match at Melbourne on December 30 and onwards.
The "Sun" had previously published a statement based on a cablegram alleged to have been sent by Warwick Armstrong to a London newspaper to the effect that doctors' reports render Bradman's appearance in the second Test match, or any of the series, doubtful. Although Bradman'e health, is not causing immediate anxiety, a form of anaemia is suspected, which may necessitate a rest from the strain of big cricket. Another suggestion is that Mailey should be impressed for the coming Test matches. Referring to this Mailey states: "I have no wish to play. Even if I did I am not eligible."
AUCKLAND TEAM SELECTION.
The selectors of the Auckland Cricket Association have chosen two further players for representative practiae. They are: G. Katcliffe (Grafton), and T. Lyon (YMJO.A-).
