Mr. J. Stanton, city solicitor, left for Wellington last evening. He anticipates returning on Wednesday. Mr. W. C. Hewitt, of Auckland, left by the Monterey to-dav on a business trip to Melbourne and Sydney. Sir Walter Stringer, chairman of! the War Pensions Appeal Board, left for Wellington by train last evening. Mr. V. D. Mclnnes left by the Monterey to-day for Sydney to establish branches of his business in Australian centres. Mr. Edward Smith, president of the. Pharmacy Board of New Zealand, leaves for Wellington this, evening to attend a meeting of the board. Mr. W. H. Adams, of Dunedin, has been nominated by the Mataura Preebytery as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. Dr. G. E. O. Fenwick and Dr. W. Gilraour returned this morning by the Limited express, Dr. Gilmour,' from Dunedin, and Dr. Fenwick, from Wellington. Mr. J. Thacker, a ■member of the Birmingham City Council, and retired head of one of that city's biggest manufacturing businesses, arrived in Wellington yesterday by the Ruahino, on his third visit to the Dominion.
Mr. 11. E. L. Porter, English alpinist, arrived by the Ruahine. in Wellington yosterday. He was in the Dominion three years ago, when he wanted to climb the three peaks over 10,000 feet that so far had beaten him, on account of weather conditions. They arc Mount Dampier, Douglas Peak and Lα Pcronsc. Mrs. Porter accompanied Mr. Porter. She is a. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J, M. Barker, of Wailii.
