CURRENCY REFORM.

DEMAND BY FARMERS.

IMMEDIATE INQUIRY URGED.

The difficulties facing the primary producers of the Dominion were discussed at length on Friday at a large farmers' rally at Feilding, convened by the Feilding branch of the Farmers' Union.

The following resolution was carried unanimously: ' ; That this meeting of farmers firmly believes that immediate action is necessary if the country is to avoid a gigantic catastrophe, and, while satisfied that no permanent benefit can arise from tho application of uneconomic expedients, is of the opinion that since the Government is not prepared to face the facts, it must provide immediate temporary relief in the direction of a substantial reduction in interest charges, and claims that tho only permanent solution of our economic difficulties lies in Parliament resolving to institute currency reform in the direction of stabilising New Zealand's internal currency. We further agree that there is absolutely no tenable argument against the introduction of currency reform by way of managing our internal currency under the control of a board, which Parliament could institute, and remove the control and manipulation of the existing system from the hands of private monopoly. We therefore urge upon the Government the need for an immediate investigation into the possibilities of reform by providing for stabilising internal currency. And that this meeting strongly protests against Parliament adjourning without first making a definite effort to relieve the desperate position of farmers."
