DEAL IN SHARES.
FALSE PRETENCE CHARGE. SALESMAN BEFORE COURT. A salesman, John Septimus Payne, aged 41, appeared before Mr. W. K. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court this afternoon on a charge of pretences. Accused, for whom Mr. Bryce Uart appeared, was charged, on June 27, with falsely representing to Edward Henry Pointon that he couM inake £40 by purchasW Duplex.Piston Valve, shares lor £4 each and that lie had a buyer in Wellington who would pay £0; also that he had £28 iii the bank and would put up a. cheque for £25, thereby inducing Pointon to endorse a cheque for £55 in order that it coxild be afterwards used as a valuable security. Detective-Sergeant Kelly prosecuted. (Proceeding.)
