NEW MUNICIPAL BLOCK.
CORNER OF GREY AVENUE. Referring io the proposed expenditure of £45,000 on a municipal office building, the committee said the site in view was that portion of the civic block at the junction of Grey Avenue and Cook Street. The leases of the buildings standing on the land -would expire next September. The committee stressed the necessity for 6ome further provision being made for the housing of the council's staff in view of the extreme congestion existing at the Town Hall. Attention had been directed from time to time to the inadequate accommodation, and in the interests of efficiency action was necessary at the earliest possible moment. A building should be erected to accommodate a number of the council's departments. In addition, room could be provided on" satisfactory terms for other public bodies closely associated with the council's activities, at present housed in ■unsuitable premises.
