COMPANY DIRECTOR.

GIRL'S APPOINTMENT.

National Pictures, Limited, have shown a disregard of tradition in appointing a woman as director. Miss Doris Cleland, who is only 24 years of age, has been appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late Mr. W. J. Rainger, who had been a director for many years.

Mies Cleland was educated at the Auckland Diocesan Girls' High School, where she was head prefect in her last year and was a brilliant scholar. For four years she was a student at the Auckland University College, where she gained her Ba.chelor of Arts degree and a Diploma in Journalism. Miss Cleland was for three years a keen student of economics, and in her first yea,r at the subject secured top place in New Zealand. She recently joined the staff of an advertising agency.

Miss Cleland is following in the footsteps of her late mother, Mrs. Annie Cleland, who was for ir.any years a director of the same company.
