NINETY-TWO TO-DAY.

MR. JAMES HURLEY, OF NORTHCOTE.

Mr. Jamee Hurley, of Northcote, to-day celebrated his ninety-second birthday at the home of his youngest daughter, Mrs. A. W. Millar, in Vincent Street. He has resided at Northcote since 1880, and of his four eone, three daughters, 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren now living, all have their permanent home in that borough, with the exception of three grandsons. Mrs. Hurley died in January, 1927, at the age of 83 years. The sons are Messrs. Alfred Hurley, Walter William Hurley, Albert James Hurley, and Thomas. H. Hurlev, and the daughters, are Mrs. Edward Stilwell, Mre. Andrew W. Millar and Mies Bessie Hurley.

Mr. and Mrs. Hurley, who were married in Somerset, England, came to New Zealand in the sailing ship Northumberland, and were met by Mr. Hurley's brother-in-law, the late Mr. Thomas Hilditch, and rowed direct from that vessel to the eulphur works whsrf, located at the eastern ehoro of Northcote. They made their home in the only cottage then on Sulphur beach, alongside the brick building in which, the sulphur plant was housed, and later erected a larger dwelling a few chains distant. There they lived till 1914, when they moved to Queen Street.
