HENDERSON NEWS.

The official opening of the tennis season at Henderson took place on Saturday .afternoon on the courts of the Henderson Tennis Club, between 40 and 50 players being present, including visitors from the Keildon, East End, Glen Eden, Kumeu and other clubs. The ceremony was performed by the president, Mr. B. Cranvoll, and the first ball served was by Miss Cranwell. The Henderson Tennis Club is one of the largest in the district.

The Henderson Young Men's League, being unable to obtain the use of the supper room in the Town Hall at a charge within their means, have taken over the building lately occupied by Mr. W. Reeves as a workshop, and are now engaged in making extensive alterations and repairs to it. It has been thoroughly cleaned out by the Henderson Fire Brigade, seats and tables constructed, the electric light installed, a new floor laid down and a portion of it is being lined with three-ply and other material. Unlike most organisations of a similar character, which usually suspend their operations at the end of the spring, the league is carrying on into the summer months, and a lengthy programme, consisting of boxing and wrestling contests, gymnastic displays and lectures on various subjects, including one on "Life-Saving," by Mr. A. D. Trendall, is in course of preparation.
