INJURED ANIMALS.

NEW AMBULANCE AND CLINIC.

WELFARE ASSOCIATION'S WORK.

That there is work for the newly-formed Animal Welfare Association was proved yesterday afternoon, when a message reached Miss P. Howard Dawson, veterinary officer of the association, that an injured fox terrier was awanting her aid at the Checker office. The dog had been found in Mount Eden,- and was suffering from a dislocated stifle. Aβ it had no collar there is no way of identifying the owner.

The establishment .by the association of a free clinic and free ambulance service is claimed to be the first attempt in New Zealand to supply a long overdue need. There have been dozens of instances in the city of dogs, injured by passing motor care, being left to fend for themselves. Now a telephone call to 46-800 will bring the free animal ambulance for dogs thus injured, and they will be given, skilled treatment or be humanely destroyed, as the case requires. The service is limited to a radius of five miles of the Town Hall.

The free clinic has been established at 474, Upper Queen Street, and is under the charge of Mies Dawson, veterinary practitioner. It will be open at specified hours every week day, Saturday morning having been especially included by Miss Dawson to enable school children to take advantage of it. It is designed to meet the needs of people who cannot afford to pay for veterinary treatment for their animal pets, many of which have to be destroyed because their owners do not know what treatment to apply in cases where skilled attention would restore their pets to health.
