An official in the Danish bacon industry stated that as a result of a fortnight's lock-out there was an accumulation of half a million pigs at the farms. They were killed in the abattoirs at the rate of 125,000 a week. " Just now pigs are about the cheapest commodity in Denmark. Sucking pigs can be had almost for the taking, and they are being used as a. means of payment to farm hands. A case is reported of a young woman in a country town paying four sucking pigs for a permanent" wave."
