STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

WAIWENEj-FOR STUD. Waiwene, u four-year-old mare by Diacquenod from Rinvene, lias finished her racing career, aild she will be retired to the stud. 1 Though she did not stay further than six furlongs, she possessed a lot of speed, as she showed when she won tlie l'aparua Handicap at the Grand National meeting two months ago. MAY WANT A RACE. Imamint, who ricked herself while playing in- the paddock, is now doing light tasks again, and will probably be seen out at the Whangarei meeting next week. This mare had been galloping well prior to the misha.p, and was in first rate condition, but the halt in her preparation may find her a bit below her best for her engagements next week. AN OAKS CANDIDATE. L. J. Ellis will pilot Lady Zephyr in the Oaks on Wednesday at Riccarton. This filly , has not had much racing, her best effort being to run second at Ashburton in September, She was unfortunate in being prevented, through wet weather, from having a rac6 in the Rangiora Cup on Labour Day, as that event would have provided a line to her prospects as a stayer. KILTOWYN ON THE EASY LIST. Kiltowyn, who is entered for the Xormanby Handicap, one .mile, to be dccided at Ellerslie on Monday, and whose track work has been particularly <;oad for a maiden, is an improbable starter. He got cast in his box about a fortnight ago and injured one ; of his knees, but it appeared to be al! right again this week. However, it is again causing liim trouble, and his owner lias decided to case him up. BAD LUCK. The Gisborne representative Tai Ao was in the boom toward the end of last season (says "The Watcher"). He was a weiibacked failure on the opening day of the Wellington winter meeting, and I remember his rider, L. G. Morris, telling me after the race that Tai Ao was not nearly so good as everyone thought he was. Now comes word from Gisborne that he has become afflicted in the wind, which may account for his poor form here four months ago. NOT RACING AT ELLERSLIE. Although not engaged at Ellerslie, Vandyke is a very fit horse, and he should put up a bold shoWing in the ParahakL Handicap at Whangarei on Thursday. Ho strode over six furlongs this morning in 1.20, and could have improved considerably on that time. This horse has not been .in the money since -lie won at Avondale in the autumn, but he is a useful sort at hi.; best, and if lie fails to win a race at the Northern fixture no excuses can be made for him. MAKING GOOD PROGRESS. On Approval, who is engaged at the Whangarei meeting, was sprinted half a .mile at Ellerslie this morning, running the distance in 50 2-ss. This hack has done well since he raced at Avondale, where he showed promise by finishing close up behind the placed horses in the Mount Albert Handicap. The class at the Northern meeting will not be <iis strong as he met at Avondale, and On Approval should have fair prospects of earning some money. ENGAGED ON MONDAY. | Lord Aintree, who is engaged in the Hobson Handicap to 4 be run at Ellerslie on Monday, is a vastly "improved horse since he won a double .-it Cambridge, and, despite the fact that he will be meeting much stronger opposition next week, he can be depended upon to put up a firstclass effort. G. Jenkins, who rode the Hunting Song gelding in his last two -euccesses,. wilii again be on him. This hack worked over /five furlongs on the No. 1 •grass" at Ellerslie this morning and, witliou't being.,cxtended at anypart of the gallop,-recorded 1.5.*' i' ==========
