GOLD FIND REPORTED.

' OTAGO PROSPECTORS' LUCK.

DUNEDIN, Friday.

News of a rich strike in gold by Mr. James Bell, a farmer of Beaumont, and Mr. Leonard Mason, who is in liia employ, is reported from Beaumont. For the past 14 months Messrs. Bell and Mason have in their spare time been prospecting on the property of Mr. Harold Patereon, but they met with indifferent success until about a week ago, when they commenced to strike some good prospects. It is reported that the results have increased in value, and indicate that rich yields may be forthcoming when a proper plant for the Working of the ground is obtained. The spot on which the prospectors made the find is about a mile and a half below the Beaumont township towards Chinaman's Plat. Their prospects are not as rich as the two claims at Cromwell Plat. They are in hopes that with proper machinery they ■ will able to reach the bottom, and when this is achieved they will commence exploiting the field in real earnest. The report of the discovery caused a considerable stir-in the township, and already there lias been a rush to peg off claims.
