OLD OFFENDER GAOLED. •INCURRED DEBTS BY FRAUD, "From his first to his last sentence, this man has served 29 years ingaol," said Detective-Sergeant Kelly in the Police Court this morning, referring to Richard John Hackett, 58, who pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the terms and conditions of his release on probation, and two other charges of incurring debts or liabilities of £10 10/ and £9 10/ by fraud. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said that after leaving prison on February 11 Hackett went to Horeke, North Auckland, and stayed at a hotel for several week's, without paying his board. He represented to the licensee that he had £7600 in the bank, and that he was buying a large- sawmill, and borrowed money from the licensee. He hired a motor vehicle to take some friends on a picnic, after telling the owner a similar tale. "Hackett is a past master at buying and selling farms and sawmills, and taking people down," added. Mr. Kelly. Hackett was sentenced to six months' i imprisonment.
