STRATFORD RAILWAY.
CEREMONY ON MONDAY NEXT. MR. FORBES TO DRIVE LAST SPIKE. VISITORS FROM AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. For the official opening of the Stratford Main Trunk railway on Monday special trains will run to Heao Valley from both the Taranaki and Main Trunk districts. The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, will drive the last spike at Heao, the place where the east and west railheads met. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates and the Hon. R. Masters will also attend the ceremony.
A party from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce will meet the Ministerial party at Taumarunui, from where a special train with the official party will leave at 8.15 on Monday morning. The Railways Department points out that all times relating to special trains are approximate. The train from Taumarunui is scheduled to reach Heao about 10.40 and an hour is allowed for the ceremony. The train will leave Tangarakau on the return to Taumarunui about 3.30 p.m., reaching Taumarunui about 6 p.m. in ample time to connect with the north-bound express.
A special train will leave New Plymouth at 6.45 a.m. and reach Heao at 10.45. It will leave on the return at about 11.55 a.m., arriving at Tangarakau for lunch at 12.20 p.m. and leaving again for Stratford at about 2 p.m., arriving there about 4.30 p.m.
LAND FOB RAILWAY,
LARGE BLOCKS ACQUIRED. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. By a proclamation gazetted last night, five blocks of land, aggregating 2300 acres, are takqn for the purposes of the Stratford Main Trunk railway (Heao section) and for road diversion.
