PETROL STATIONS.
REQUEST FOB LIMITATION. CITY COUNCIL WITHOUT POWER. A request that no further permits be issued for the installation of petrol pumps was recently made to the Works Committee of the City Council, when a petition to that effect, signed by the majority of petrol station proprietors of Auckland, was presented. The deputation pointed out that there were 31 petrol stations, with 185 pumps, within the city boundaries, within a radius of two wiles of the Central Post Office, and declared that the saturation point had been reached; and that the installation of additional pumps would entail further hardships on owners of existing stations. The council agreed to the committee's recommendation that petitioners be informed that the council had no power to accede to the request.
