CHESS.

CONGRESS IN AUCKLAND. At a meeting of the Auckland Chess Club, Mr. P. J. Jeffreys presiding, it was decided to take advantage of the offer of Mr. M. E. Goldstein, exchampion of Middlesex (England) and Sew South Wales, to give another simultaneous exhibition on November 19. An endeavour will be made to induce as many players as possible to take part, as the club wishes to beat the New Zealand record of 41 games. Efforts will be made to get players to attend from all the clubs in the province. In order to assist the Chess Congress funds, a small entrance charge will be made, to be refunded to any player who succeeds in winning his game. The Auckland Chess Club has to make all arrangements for conducting the annual chess championship, and this is considered to be an opportunity to augment its funds, which are contributed to from all clubs in the Dominion. The exhibition will commence at 7 p.m., and all players are invited.
