GIRL ATHLETES.
TO-MORROW'S SPORTS. CARNIVAL AT BLANDFOKD PARK. The annual sports meeting and drill display of the Auckland Girls' Athletic Association —the seventh gala of the kind promoted by this body—will be held at Blandford Park to-morrow afternoon, and has every promise of being blessed by weather which should give the utmost value in enjoyment and attractiveness to the event. For the occasion the various teams have spent many weeks practising at the direction of Miss M. Seai-le a number of spectacular novelties for massed effect. These include scarf drill, figure-marching, a human maypole, and a polonaise, in all of which events the dressing, drill and timing have been carefully studied to catch the eye and stir the pulse of the spectator. Mr. J. F. Rogers has been in charge of the drill, which should ensure a standard equal to the best of former years. All the girls are especially keen on team work, and they have several big prizes to compete for, including the Grand Challenge Cup for the team getting the aggregate points in all events, the Kohn Cup for the most team points, the Shearer Cup for most points in single events, the Durodown Cup for drill, the Weeks Cup for the team getting second in drill, and the Berlei Cup for marching. The individual sports events will be most keenly contested, and among the competitors will be seen the Auckland lady champion sprinter, Mrs. Harris, and also Miss D. Reynolds, who was runner-up in the provincial sprint championship.
