ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Otahuhu Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, presiding. Demonstration—A request from the Auckland Suburban Fire Brigade Demonstration Committee for permission to hold a demonstration in one of the Otahuhu parks on January '29, 1932, was referred to the parks committee to make arrangements. Appreciation.—The Otahuhu Rugby Football Club donated £5 to the parks committee, and asked the council to place on record its appreciation of the courtesy and assistance given by the committee at ail times. Sinking Funds.—The Mount Albert Borough Council forwarded a copy of letter received from the Prime Minister regarding amendments to the Sinking Fund Bill.

The Mayor:- This is not at all satisfactory, as it evades the point at issue. Many local bodies appointed the Public Trustee commissioner under seal, but Otahuhu appointed him by resolution of the council, and have a perfect right to remove him by. resolution. However, it seems the Public Trustee is going to force things through in spite of any protest from u». The town clerk said that, under the new arrangement, when the council loans reached maturity they would be £4500 short. This would require to be met by the Ratepayers. No action was taken.
