THAMES VALLEY DRAINAGE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TE AROHA, Thursday. Mr. D. G. Watson presided at the November meeting of the Thames Valley Drainage Board at Te Aroha to-day. Mr. W. T. Dale, the representative of the Elstow subdivision, was welcomed. Endowment Drain.—The clerk reported in the matter of the endowment dram that the committee met Mr. Slaughter and Mr Meßrine, of the Labour Department, and Mr. Slaughter was agreeable to a married men's camp being established, the men to receive 37/6 for five days per week. Oliine Creek.-—ln the matter of the Oliine Creek works of Waitoa river, the committee which inspected the work carried out by relief workers under the Public Works Department control made a report, and said good work was being carried out by both camps. Tile river was being cleared and snagged along its boundary of willow roots, etc. Bancroft's Drain—lt was decided to ask the chief engineer of the Public Works Department to treat the matter of Bancroft's drain as urgent. Waihou River.—'The Paeroa Chamber of Commerce asked for the board's support of the application to the Government for the revocation of the proclamation making the Waihou River a sludge channel for mining purposes. In a general discussion it was stated that Paeroa feared the effect of the rivet- being silted up in the next few years, thus making navigation difficult. One member said that Paeroa was unable to alter the position in regard to tailings going into the Ohinemuri River, but -Ished to prevent silt going into the Waihou. It was decided, on the motion of Mr. Carter, to support the Paeroa Chamber. • •• 1
