REQUEST REFUSED.
ITNEBitPIiOYED FREEZING WORKERS. QUESTION IN HOUSE, (By Telegraphs—Parliamentary Reporter.) "VVEIiLINeTON, rtis day. A request that instructions be given to provide relief work for freezing workers who are engaged in the dispute with the freezing companion was refused by the acting-Minister of Employment,; the Hon. A. Hamilton, in the Hoii|e yesterday. On "behalf of Mr. W. J. Jordan (Labour, Manukau), Mr. W. E. Barnard (Labour, Napier),, and himself, Mr. D. W. Coleman (Labour, Gisbbrne) asked the Minister if he was aware that the men who were out of employment owing to the dispute between the freezing companies and their employees -were being denied, relief work. He asked that instructions be issued that-the*men be employed. Mr. Coleman said that negotiations were 'being conducted between the parties concerned. This was evidence
thftt the previous offers were not mutually acceptable, and it was hoped that a settlement would 'be reached. Aβ the employees were at present unemployed, it seemed fair that they should be "considered as unemployed 'by the Unemployment Board and relief work made aval able to them. The Mil lister said that he was not able to give the instructions desired by Mr. Coleman. The cases'would be treated, ae circumstances permitted, oii their merins.
