WAIKATO GOSSIP.

THE AUCKLAND MEETING. HORSES FROM TE RAPA. THEIR PROSPECTS DISCUSSED. Te Rapa stables will be fairly wel represented at the Auckland spring meet ing* although there does not appear to bf anything of outstanding moment in th( material engaged. Trowbridge has pulled up sore on mori than one occasion this week when workec at Te Rapa, but has thrown it off aftei working, and her trainer, C. Carmont intends to take .her to- Ellerslie to fulfi hurdle engagements. Trowbridge wai second to Full Measure at the wintei meeting at Ellerslie. She stays on well. Senorita is a Guineas candidate from F Tutchen'e stable. G. Connor is to ridi the half-sister to Speedmint on Saturday and it looks like flying at high game t( race her against Pillow Fight and Co However, Senorita will be in the picturi for some of the trip, for she has speed and is in nice condition just now. Baroscope is not the horse he was prio: to the Avondale meeting. The Weather vane gelding has not been asked for veri much in the way of fast work since hi raced at Cambridge. He is engaged 01 the second day at Ellerslie, and may maki the trip. In Good^Trim. Royal Visitor is to contest the hurdle at Ellerslie on Monday. The Lucullus— Sports Queen gelding schooled really wel on Tuesday morning and a repetition o that form would give him an undoubte< chance at his next start. J. Mcßae, whi has schooled him this week, is to be hi pilot. Cargen- is another of Mcßae's mounts a the Auckland meeting. The Quin AbbeyCurearua gelding has been disappointin] so far. However, he is getting into im proved shape with each outing and it ma; not be wise to discard him yet awhile. Luminary may be given a race ove hurdles on the final day at Ellerslie. Th Day Comet gelding jumped badly at th Great Northern and Grand National fix tures. He is fresh looking and schoolin; well, but may be lacking in condition, a he has had a let-up since his return forr the South. Advance Camp is another of the hurd ling brigade booked for Auckland, wher P. Mcllroy will ride him on Monday. Ii a bout on Tuesday morning over fou hurdles Royal Visitor ran right away fror Advance Camp. It may not do to dismis Advance Camp for this reason, as pas experience has proved that he is a bette horse with the colours up. Sure to Go Well. Tradesman was sent along in a coupl of sprinting efforts this week. The Race ful gelding put plenty of dash into hi work. He lias thrived on ihis recent rat ing, and is goinig to .prove a hard hors to beat in the Shorts Handicap, despit his solid weight. O. Mclnally will agai be his rider. Tradesman is entered fo Whangarei, but is not likely to go Nortl unless for the mile event on the fin* day. Welcome Lu, the three-year-old hal sister by Lucullus, to Tradesman, i booked for Whangarei. This filly, Wh had her iirst race of the season at th Hunt meeting, has been improved by th outing. She is lacking a little in stamin as yet, but will develop with further ra< feruachan's rider in the Mitchelson Cu will be the Awapuni apprentice L. I Faulkner. The latter has been locate at Te Rapa since the Avondale meetinj and has ridden Cruachan in his fast wor this week. Cruachan is in hardy cond tion as the outcome of his recent racin; He is quite a possibility among the ligh weights in the coming race. The Kin Mark gelding will be well suited if tli track should be yielding. Paganelli and Holly Holm are to d their next racing at the Waikato mee ing. The former has not had a start th: season, but Holly Holm was raced i Cambridge. Their trainer, M. Carroll, also working a three-year-old gelding b Acre—Rangitere, by Rangitiro—Haer< moana, by Antagonist—Tangimoana. Th is an upstanding gelding, who was bre by the late Mr. D. Buick. . Failed at Last Start. Persham has worked regularly since tl: Cambridge meeting. His failure there i the sprint was difficult to fathom, unlej it was that he found the going trick; Of course, it lias also to be remembere that he had not had a race since earl last April. He had worked well pric to the meeting. However, the Lackhai gelding will have another chance on Sa urday to prove his worth. If he pr< duces the best he is capable of, one nee not look much further for the winner. Te Hoia's pilot in the Mitchelson Cu will be A. Tinker, and on the score c horsemanship Te Hoia could not be bettc served. There is a doubt, however, : Te Hoia will be quite keyed up for gruelling twelve furlongs. He develope tendon trouble while at Avondale an could not be started there. Although h' trainer, L. Everson, has had Te Hoia o the tracks regularly since, the horse ha not had very much really fast work. H looks bright and fresh and races well tha way. WHANGAREI RACING CLUB.
