ONLY ONE CREDITOR.
MARRIED WOMAN'S BANKRUPTCY. The affairs of Mary Annie Barrett, married woman were investigated by the Official Assignee, Mr. A. W. Watters, this morning. The only creditor was the Public Trustee, who had a claim for £375. The assets of the bankrupt were set down at £70, comprising personal and household effects. Bankrupt stated that in June, 1931, she entered into an agreement to purchase a property at Park Road owned by the Public Trustee. Later she contended that the representations to her concerning the property were not all true and she repudiated the contract. The Public Trustee subsequently sold the property for £1250 and sued her for the difference between that and the price she had agreed to buy at, judgment being given against her for £375, w>ich amunot she had been unable to pay. It was on the petition of the Public Trustee that she had been adjudicated bankrupt. About two and a half years ago she started a small drapery business in Dominion Road, but business fell away in the early part of the present year and she gave it up. She estimated she had £200 worth of stock, but all she got for it was £40, and with this and other money she had in the bank she paid all her creditors except the Public Trustae. She now had no money. The meeting adjourned sine die.
