AWHITU. At the October meeting a talk on flower gardening was given by Mrs. W. Dickey, The hostesses were Mcsdames W. J. and S. It. D'ekoy. HOWICK. Mrs. A. Clierry presided over th# monthly meeting held on October 26, when the Rev. A meeting was held on the 20th in the Memorial Hall, presided over by the president, Mrs. Featherstonhaugh. Mrs. Featherstonhaugh was elected delegate to attend the Waikato Federation Conference. Miss liills, of Te Pahu, gave a talk on Rhodesia. The roll call, "What I Would Like on the Programme," was well responded to. Tlic monthly competition for the neatest darn in sox, resulted: Mrs. Dodd 1, Miss Muriel Sutton 2, Mrs. Dent 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mcsdames Silcock, Wilson and Death. WAIKINO. The meeting on Thursday was presided over by Mrs. J. W. Jones, vicepresident, in the absence of Mrs. Metcalfe. Mrs. Ayres was chosen delegate for the forthcoming conference. A duet was sung by Mesdames J. W. Jones and Litligaw, and Mrs. Jones gave humorous songs. The competition winners for the best plate of pikelets were Mrs. Olnev 1, Mrs. Hollidge 2. In the something made from a sugar bag competition, Mrs. Lindsay was first and Mrs. Lithgow second. The hostesses - were Mesdames Dawson, J. Kinsella, McClintock and Miss Jean Cochrane. WAITAKARURU. At the recent meeting a debate, "Town Versus Country," aroused much interest, the country side winning. Mesdames J. Lang, A. Wylie and J. McClune detailed the advantages of country life, while Mesdames W. Hedges, Mooring and. Miss U. Lang expounded on the benefits of town life. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs. J. McClune for her efficient services as librarian. Mrs. V. Gorden won the guessing competition, and a demonstration of passe partout was given by Mrs. G. Connell. The hostesses were Mesdames W. Burdus, E. Burling, A. Wylie, G. Connell and Miss Burdus. OMAHA AND PAKIRI. Mrs. G. B. White presided at a meeting held in the Leigh Hall on October 23, and gave a report 011 the Auckland Area Federation Conference, at which organisation she has been elected president. A word competition was won by Miss G. Ashton, Mrs. Dunning gaining second place, and Mrs. A. J. Matheson third- place. In the points competition of an article costing not more than one shilling, Mrs. Neely won first place, with a little child's frock, Mrs. G. B. White and Mrs. It. D. Matheson tied for second place, and Mrs. A. J. Matheson gained , fourth place. Three new members were elected. Mr. J. Wyatt was in charge of the trading stall. Mrs. H. Torkington gave the motto. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames W. F. Harper and L. Wyatt, and Misses It. Matheson and A. Fecht. WAIMAUKU. Mrs. L. Kerr-Taylor presided at the meeting of the Waimauku Women's Institute held in the local hall on Wednesday. An interesting address 011 dahlia and chrysanthemum culture was given by Mr. F. Cullen. It was announced that Mr. Brassington, manager of the local dairy company, had given a prize to the member gaining most points in buttermaking at the end of twelve months. : The winners of the butter-making con- . test on Wednesday were: Mrs. L. KerrTaylor 1, Mrs. A. Hunt 2, and Mrs. D. Kilgour 3. The winners of the best bunch , of marigolds, judged by Mr. F. Cullen, , were: Mrs. R. M. Matheson 1, Mrs. W. Hollinger 2, and Mrs. Kerr-Tavlor 3.
