Conditions were warm and pleasant at Riccarton. for the final gallops before the opening of the Canterbury Jockey Club'* spring meeting. The outside of the course proper was open, and qpme interesting gallops were registered, Fast Passage, Shatter, Pahu, Cadland, Grecian Prince, Silver Ring and Royal Sceptre being among those who pleased. - Kakara ran a mile in 1.45 1-5, Muff taking 1.44, but neither was. ridden out. Silver Scorn, traversed a mile and a quarter in 2.10,: Meprisant assisting her over the last seven furlongs. She finished •well without being bustled. Normandy, -after breaking away at the seven-furlong post, ran six in 1.17. Chile, Importance and Pacify, did an easy half-mile, .Jaloux and Azalea aleo doing strong work. Riri ran a mile in 1.44 I*s, Berate accompanying him. over the last eeven furlqnge. Craigavon and Shelter ran six furlong» in 1.18. Red Manfred and Fracas were well matched over half a mile down thli straight course, with Pegged Exchange and Revival lengths away. Gay Crest aid Minstrel Lad rail six furlongs in 1.18 2-5, without being ridden out. Fast Passage covered a mile and a quarter in 2.7 v 2-5, with Dorian assisting her over the fret five furlongs, and Morepork over the last five. She ran the last half-mile in 50 3-s§, and it was a good performance. Juniper covered a mile easily in 1.48 2-5. Headland ran six furlongs in 1.16 1-s—a good performance, as he finished fast. Rocket just beat Fleeting Glance over a mile in 1.44 2-5. Cricket Bat ran seven furlong!! in 1.30, finishing fast.
