CRICKET.

AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. VIVIAN'S BOWLING FEAT. "POACHING - ' OF-DOMINION PLAYERS. At last night's Vneeting of the Auckland Cricket Association it was resolved, on the motion of the "chairman, Mr. E. E. Nalder, to send a letter of congratulation to H. G. Vivian, the New Zealand representative, who secured all ten wickets in one innings while playing for Parnell against Eden. Mr. H. Duncan (the Parnell skipper) intimated that the ball with which the feat had been performed had ■been secured and would be presented to •Vivian after it had been engraved.

The members of the executive were in complete agreement with the sentiments expressed by Mr. Dan' Reese, Christchurch, ex-president of the New Zealand Cricket Council, with regard to prominent Dominion players being "poached" by overseas clubs, particularly in the Lancashire League. It was decided to write to Mr. Reese complimenting him upon the stand he had taken. ' i

Grafton advised that Fred Angus, of its senior B team, had scored a centurylast, Saturday. The award of a bat for. the first hundred of the season will, however-, be postponed until all grade competitions have commenced. Saturday next will be the virtual opening day in the lower grade. It was reported that, contrary to rules, some umpires in lower grade cricket were still enforcing the snick rule, as applied to leg-before-wieket decisions, and which was abolished !**jt season.

The advisability of .covering the senior grade wickets in the. event of rain prior, to the commencement of matches was raised by Mr. L." B. Schhauer, and after a deal of f discussion it was decided, to investigate the • cost-- of tarpaulins before considering further the question of covering, complete or partial, bowling creases.
