TAKANINI HORSES.

THEIR ELLERSLIE PROSPECTS SOME LIKELY CANDIDATES. PILLOW FIGHT VERY FIT. Pillow Fight will reach a short price in the Great Northern Guineas, and he will certainly he hard to beat. He has done well since racing at .Avondale and will strip a very fit horse on Saturday. What beats him should win. Greek Gold continues to show brilliant speed in track gallops, and as he ran a solid race in the Avondale Guineas, when he finished fourth, he will have plenty of admirers. He should run out the mile solidly and may be in the vicinity when the post is reached. Tea Trader looks improved as a result of recent racing, and it would not be surprising to find him running out the mile more solidly than at Avondale, where he led the Guineas' field for seven furlongs. He was not raced at Wellington, but on Saturday should again demonstrate that he is a force to be reckoned with. Prolyxo and Bell Topper are two other Takanini acceptors for the Guineas, and although neither appears likely to upset calculations should run good races, as both are In good condition and have been responsible for some nice track efforts. However, Pillow light and Tea Trader should prove themselves to be a little above the other representatives on the day.

The Two-year-olds. The Welcome Stakes finds another good representation from this district, Gay Sheila, Star Artist, Coronis and Gold Pocket being among those lett in. Gay Sheila has the best form, having won on the second day of the Avondale meeting, and she should be capable of another good effort in this engagement, despite the fact that the class she is meeting on this occasion is considerably stronger. Gold Pocket ran fourth in the Avondale Stakes and finished fifth on the second day. This "eldin" is solid in condition and should not disgrace himself. Coronis did not begin too well in her Avondale engagement and was one of the last to leave the barrier. A true line on her capabilities could not be obtained, but she has only to run up to track work to be found giving a good account of -herself. After running into the money in both her starts at Avondale, Star Artist was accorded strong support at Wellington. She was caught in the tapes and gave away a big start to the leaders, so that she did well to finish fifth, particularly as it was only a half mile race, lhis filly looks very well, and her prospects in the Welcome Stakes are very bright. . Cat-i-mes was going well until she fell in' the steeplechase at Cambridge, and as she possesses pace and jumping abiity she should go well in the Trial Hurdles. It would be pleasing to see her connections rewarded, as so far luck has been against them. Huntingdon, High Comedy and Exaggeration form a likely trio in the bhorts Handicap. Huntingdon is again showing all his former speed on the tracks. He may have disappointed a little at Avondale, but he is expected to be improved for his next outing, and it should not be very long before he is again found saluting the judge. High Comedy ran well on the second day of the Avondale meeting and is showing improved form on the track, it is a bit early in the season for this fellowto be found at his best, as he usually requires racing, but consideration must be given to his bright appearance and /improved condition, which suggest that he should be ready to take .out a good sprint event before long; The speedy Exaggeration is to be given her first race in open company. She is tackling good class, but should appreciate the light weight, where--as she has been well up in the weights in hack class. This factor is to be considered and she .impresses as a lightweight that may quite likely upset calculations. Form, however, points to Huntingdon as the most dangerous in the Shorts Handicap.

Knows the Country Well. Mashoor's form at Cambridge does not brighten his' prospects in the Hunters Steeples, but it would be as well to remember that the Lucullus gelding is a safe jumper and knows Ellershe country well. Should he produce his best he would take some beating, but recent form does not make his .prospects appear very good.

Royal Artist and Great Emblem are two Takanini lightweights that are both possibilities ■in the. Mitchelson Cup. Great Emblem ran a very creditable second to Protomint in. the Plumpton Handicap at Avondale, and although the field on this occasion is stronger the Emblematic gelding should give his admirers a good run for their Money, as he sticks well. Following his second in the Avondale Cup, Royal Artist ran' fourth in the Wellington Handicap. The latter event was run under conditions unsuitable to this gelding and he went a good race in the circumstances. Under favourable track conditions Royal Artist will be hard to beat in the Mitcheison Cup, and he should command solid support. Thespis' prospects in the big event do not appear hopeless, but he has yet to prove himself in handicap class. "Palace is a solid galloper and one likely to soon make his presence felt in hack events. He is giving away plenty of weight in the Gordon Handicap, but his prospects appear bright. Prolyxo, if started here, would have a better chance of success than in the Guineas, while Arch Ruler may go well. Holly Lu has ;been galloping well enough to have a chance, but of the quartet Palace appeals most. -Imperial Prince, Chief Joy and Speedmint should all go good races in the 1< lying Handicap. The firstnanted. after his attractive win at Avondale, should be in■■the limelight, while Speedmint may be; all the better for her recent racing. Chief Joy will have to improve to win, and of the ;trio Speedmint may .be found in the money. • ' *" ' " ; ' •Owing to an accident which befell her in the paddock, Valmaire will., have to forego Whangarei engagements. This mare •was making good headway the time of her accident, and it is bad luck lor her connections. Admiral Lu is the name claimed for the Lucullus—lvy Dale colt, who has recently joined C. Morse's team.
