AUCKLAND GUIDES

The annual meeting of the Auckland Provincial Girl Guides was held at the V.W.C.AJ on Monday evening. Mrs. A.; D. Campbell presided over a large attendance. The annual report, as presented by Mrs. R. J. Coats, Auckland Provincial" Commissioner, stated that the year had been one of many .difficulties, not the least of which had been the absence of some of their most experienced Guiders. Tribute was paid to the way some Guiders had carried on at great personal inconvenience so that _ their companies should not be left- without officers during this year. Congratulations were extended to, the Canterbury Guides for winning the Jellicoc Shield for the best team of girls for ambulance work. There, was growing activity amongst .the Lone Guides. | There were now four Lone Guide Companies, a Lone Ranger- Company and: a Lone Guiders Circle. Lone Guides had done a.gopd deal'of sunshine work, clothing, books arid toys having been sent to Various charitable organisations. Post Guides had also done: good work. ' Five new • Ranger companies had been formed during the year and.it had been decided to hold the' Ranger Conference in Auckland this year, instead of at Otimai, as formerly. Six new packs, of Brownies had "been the year and there was an increase: .of 50 'in tlio ' number/..0f Brownies: :s:Members elected to the .executive j, \yei:« v McNair, Percival, Dornian and Miss Kapson. A number of resignations had been .received-and thcfollowing appointments .made:—Miss;Sineetbn (Divisional Coin miss: oner, Auckland East); district commissioners, Miss Matthews, Epsom; Miss Cooper, Citv;Miss Hay ward, Eden; Mrs. Grevillc, North Auckland; Mrs. Anderson, North Auckland; Mrs. Wyatt, Franklin district; Mrs. Hardy, Hamilton district; Mrs. Anderson, GisbOrne. The total number of commissioners in the province was 20, .being "four divisional and 16 district; there- were fl6 warranted Secretaries. Two or three, old companies had been reopened, but there was'a slight decrease in numbers. This decrease was chiefly in the citv and was" accounted forbv the hard times. - The number of recruits had increased and more Guiders were warranted. Also.there were more commissioners, Rangers-.and.- Brownies. These things .are encouraging and point to a bright future. Numbers were as follow:—Rangers 152, Brownies 1019, Guides 1633, Lone Guides 42, PostsGuides, Rangers and Brownies.' There are in the province 273 Guiders (147 warranted and 126. unwarranted), an increase of 16 warranted Guiders.
