A meeting of the Business and Professional Women's Round Table Club was held on Monday last, at _ the Y W C.A. social hall, when the president welcomed Miss Bethel, who brought .Meetings from the sister club in Wellington. After dinner, Miss Vera Zimar, nave a talk on Zionism from a national standpoint. She told how, 50 years ago, nn organisation called the Lovers of Zion established small colonies in Palestine, working under enormous difficulties under Turkish rule. However, they had the same aims, the same enthusiasm, and the same ideals as the modern Zionist movement, which was founded by 'Dr. Herzel. The Jewish colonies in Palestine are composed ct people from all countries, there being 15,000,000 Jews scattered, throughout the world. Three : languages are spoken: Arabic, by the Arabs, English, because the' countrv is British mandatory territory; and Hebrew, which is being revived by the Jews. Telebes, the Jewish ci*f, has a population of 45,000, of which a great proportion are academic and highly cultured people, who have given up great possessions and positions of high standing to work for their race in Palestine. It is a matter of interest to Aucklanders that it is in Telebes that the infant welfare centre (the idea of which originated in Auckland) is established, and that the work being done by it has caused the name of New Zealand to be much beloved there.
